2017 National Public Lands Day Volunteer Event - Piney Branch - Sept 30, 2017

Join Rock Creek Conservancy and the National Park Service to celebrate National Public Lands Day, a day to connect people to public lands in their community, inspire environmental stewardship, and encourage the use of public lands for education, recreation, and general health. Volunteers will help support Washington DC's National Park for everyone to enjoy.
Event Activity: Volunteers will remove invasive plants, clean-up trash, and clear debris from the Piney Branch Tributary of Rock Creek Park. Tools, gloves, and training on how to identify and cut invasives will be provided. This event is suitable for ages 8 and up.
When: Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Location: Volunteers will meet at the picnic pavilion off of Piney Branch Parkway very close to the 16th St Bridge. The closest intersection is Piney Branch Parkway and Arkansas Ave NW. More specific directions including a map with the meeting location will be shared with all sign-ups.
What to Wear: Please dress appropriately for the weather. Wear sturdy boots or sneakers, no sandals. We recommend long pants and sleeves to prevent contact with poison ivy.
What to Bring: Bring water. Tools and gloves will be provided. Feel free to bring your own tools and gloves if you have them.

Weather/Cancellation Policy: If it is raining on the morning of the event, it will be canceled. All sign-ups will be updated.
All volunteers will receive special National Park Free Passes for use in any National Park in the United States.
