On the lawn of Klingle Mansion
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Gala!
THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2021 Rock Creek Gala the most magical night of the year! We were delighted to welcome nearly 350 guests to the event in a spirit of stewardship and inclusion to support our beloved Rock Creek Park.
Through the generous support of the Gala participants, Rock Creek Conservancy raised more than $270,000! With this incredible support, Rock Creek Conservancy will be able to get to work restoring Rock Creek in the coming year.
With Special Guest, Jake Tapper
CNN anchor and chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper joined the network in January 2013, imparting his political wisdom by conducting interviews with top newsmakers on politics and policy. Mr. Tapper and his family live nearby and are regular visitors and users of the park, and the first of his two novels, The Hellfire Club, opens with a scene in Rock Creek Park. Mr. Tapper's most recent novel, The Devil May Dance, is now available for order through Politics & Prose (please note, 10% of sales through this link will be donated to Rock Creek Conservancy).
Honoring,
in absentia Senator Ed Markey for his leadership on combating climate change. Senator Markey has represented Massachusetts in Congress since 1976.

Honoring artists Lou and Di Stovall
Di and Lou Stovall are internationally acclaimed artists and, through their art and mentorship of youth, local community builders. Since the 1960s they have lived and worked in DC, including their current neighborhood, Cleveland Park. Their art represents an engagement with people, community, nature, and the larger world. Much of their art is inspired by the city of Washington and Rock Creek Park, in particular. They have collaborated with numerous artists, including Jacob Lawrence, Elizabeth Catlett, and Sam Gilliam. And their work is part of prominent museum collections, such as the National Gallery of Art and the Phillips Collection. An upcoming publication by Georgetown University Press—"Of the Land: The Art and Poetry of Lou Stovall," February 1, 2022—collects work of Lou Stovall's philosophy and special visions of art, community, and nature.

Performance by the Davis Center
Dancers Kayla Bell and Sanaa Stringfield will kick off the program with a lively ballet piece. Since 1969,the Davis Center has provided dance instructions & related arts education to Washington metropolitan area residents of all ages and backgrounds. The Davis Center has long stood out among Washington, D.C.-area dance schools because it not only provides its students with a strong foundation in the performing arts, but it also teaches them the importance of caring for others through ongoing community service projects. Artistic director Beatrice Davis-Williams received the 2020 Pola Nirenska Lifetime Achievement Award in Dance from Washington Performing Arts.
Music by
the Jenny Wilson Jazz Duo
Comprised of Jenny Wilson (piano, vocal, flute) and Nathan Wilson (upright bass), will add even more magic to the evening. The sound of the duo is influenced by traditional jazz, Americana, and classical music. In a few words, their music can be described as 'subtle swing, lilting Latin, and cinematic original composition.' Jenny and Nathan regularly perform in WV, MD, PA, and OH, and have toured from Maine to Florida. We are excited to welcome them to Rock Creek.
