2024 MLK WEEKEND of service
Celebrating our 2024 MLK Weekend of Service!
In 2024, we experienced a lot of snow, but we were still able to make an impact! Together, 225 volunteers contributed 470 hours of service, cleared 2,695 sq of invasives, freed 289 trees, and removed 1,275 pounds of litter! Thank you to all those who joined us in honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by helping make Rock Creek’s parklands cleaner, safer, and more resilient for all.
Every year, in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rock Creek Conservancy, in partnership with the National Park Service and Montgomery Parks, celebrates MLK Day with the MLK Weekend of Service.
Dr. King devoted his life to equality, social justice, economic advancement, and opportunity for all. This multi-day volunteer event is part of a nationwide effort to empower individuals, build community connections, and celebrate Dr. King’s conviction that ‘all of life is interrelated’ by protecting the parklands that increase our regions social and climate resilience.
We can’t wait to get out and celebrate with you all for MLK Weekend of Service in 2024. This is a great opportunity to connect with others in the Rock Creek community around shared values and vision for the future.
See below for the list of volunteer events, including invasive plant removal and litter pick-up to help protect Rock Creek. Still have questions? Email volunteer@rockcreekconservancy.org. More events will be coming next year!
“All life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny.

Want to go solo? Register your individual clean-up!
Individual cleanups are just what they sound like: you, a trash bag, and whatever part of the Rock Creek watershed that means the most to you. You may choose any time and date that works for you to complete this activity; if you are in a park, be sure you are only working during the hours the park is open (generally dawn to dusk).
