Grove 24 concession stand restoration
a restored 1920’s concession stand
In partnership with Rock Creek Park and with the generous support of Landis Architects|Builders, Rock Creek Conservancy has restored a dilapidated concession stand located in Grove 24 of Rock Creek Park, in the recreational Brightwood area of the park.
The building was initially constructed in the mid-1920’s as a comfort station, and eventually utilized as a concession stand for park visitors. In recent years, it was closed to the public and used for mechanical storage.
While maintaining the building’s historic structure and design, the project focused on stabilizing the roof and replacing parts to stop accelerating decay. The building now has modern HVAC and heating units, and is able to be used for park operations.
